A Theory of Bounded Inductive Rationality

چکیده

The dominant theories of rational choice assume logical omniscience. That is, they that when facing a decision problem, an agent can perform all relevant computations and determine the truth value logical/mathematical claims. This assumption is unrealistic when, for example, we offer bets on remote digits pi or faces computationally intractable planning problem. Furthermore, omniscience creates contradictions in cases where environment contain descriptions itself. Importantly, strategic interactions as studied game theory are problems which predicted by its (the other players). Inductive Reasoning and Bounded Rationality

The type of rationality we assume in economics--perfect, logical, deductive rationality--is extremely useful in generating solutions to theoretical problems. But it demands much of human behavior--much more in fact than it can usually deliver. If we were to imagine the vast collection of decision problems economic agents might conceivably deal with as a sea or an ocean, with the easier problems...

Game Theory with Sparsity-Based Bounded Rationality∗

This paper proposes a way to enrich traditional game theory via an element of bounded rationality. It builds on previous work by the author in the context of one-agent decision problems, but extends it to several players and a generalization of the concept of Nash equilibrium. Each decision maker builds a simplified representation of the world, which includes only a partial understanding of the...

A Memory Based Model of Bounded Rationality a Memory Based Model of Bounded Rationality a Memory Based Model of Bounded Rationality a Memory Based Model of Bounded Rationality

How do memory limitations affect economic behavior? I develop a model of memory grounded in psychology and biology research to investigate this question. Using this model, I study the case where people apply Bayes rule to the history they recall as if it were the true history. The resulting beliefs exhibit over-reaction on average. They also exhibit under-reaction with the model providing enoug...

Bounded Rationality

The notion of bounded rationality has recently gained considerable popularity in the behavioural and social sciences. This article surveys the different usages of the term, in particular the way ‘anomalous’ behavioural phenomena are elicited, how these phenomena are incorporated in model building, and what sort of new theories of behaviour have been developed to account for bounded rationality ...

Bounded Rationality

BOUNDED RATIONALITY: rationality as exhibited by decision makers of limited abilities. The ideal of RATIONAL DECISION MAKING formalized in RATIONAL CHOICE THEORY, UTILITY THEORY, and the FOUNDATIONS OF PROBABILITY requires choosing so as to maximize a measure of expected utility that reflects a complete and consistent preference order and probability measure over all possible contingencies. Thi...
